G 20 - Toronto is shut down

The G 20 summit leads more or less to a shut down of Toronto the next week. The government spends over 1 Billion dollars for the summit. Why so much? The G 20 summit is staged in the middle of Toronto. Therefore the security costs skyrocket. This is not appropriate in times of huge budget deficits.
However, I will join the peaceful protests on saturday. One of the key issues of the G 20 is how to fix the financial system. G 8 Member Canada rejects the banking tax so far. I hope that the public pressure will change that. We need a sustainable financial system that supports the economy. What we do not need is gambling for short-term profits.

Augmented Reality

A Video about Augmented Reality from Sarah Gladney from my Issues and Topics in Design Class that I took this semester. Click here to watch it.

Act.

I love theatre. In the first weeks of my exchange I joined the Ryerson Theatre Group OACT. Last week we had our show in the Student Center of the Oakham House. It was a unique experience. I played in the comedy “Lexicomical Hypothesis”, written and directed by Darcy Corbett. It seems like the crowd enjoyed our performance. Someone on facebook said it was „was retardily brilliant”.

We need more theatre in schools

As mentioned I love theatre and I have to admit that I am biased. But I truly believe theatre and arts should play a huge role in our education system. Somehow most of the children lose their creativity after kindergarten. One reason for this is the inflexible school system that still tries to educate children for an industrial society. Our school system focuses on routinization to ensure that people fit into tasks demanded by a tayloristic system.

I am convinced that the education system should create chances and help to overcome social disparity. Furthermore it should enable children develop their creative potential.

Emoticons everywhere

I published my work for the project “Virtual Reality and Interaction” on my Flickr photostream. With this work for the course “Issue and Topics in Design” I transfer the symbols of web communication into the “real world”.

Photostream

I am currently attending the course “Issues and Topics in Design” at Ryerson University. This course helps me to broaden my horizon and to get basic design skills. As pictures look not that good on my blog, I opened a photostream on flickr. Enjoy my work and I am open to feedback.

From the 8 - 10 th February are Student Union Elections at Ryerson. This time I follow the election passively instead of be engaged actively. Nevertheless I support the team Students United because they not only provide useful services for the students, they also try to lower the fees for the students here in Ontario and they deal with several progressive issues.
