This week end I am not only a peaceful protester (G20: “fix the financial system now”), I am active as a journalist to report from G20. My first article has been published on fm4.orf.at, I will also write a analysis for misik.at (which will be published on sunday). Furthermore Ö1 interviewed me for todays “Morgenjournal”.
Thoughts about timing of open government initiatives on wikinomics blog: http://tiny.cc/ywom1.
Spent half of the day at govcamp Toronto. It was a great event, Open Data community is certainly a growing movement in Canada. Follow the conference here.
The G 20 summit leads more or less to a shut down of Toronto the next week. The government spends over 1 Billion dollars for the summit. Why so much? The G 20 summit is staged in the middle of Toronto. Therefore the security costs skyrocket. This is not appropriate in times of huge budget deficits.
However, I will join the peaceful protests on saturday. One of the key issues of the G 20 is how to fix the financial system. G 8 Member Canada rejects the banking tax so far. I hope that the public pressure will change that. We need a sustainable financial system that supports the economy. What we do not need is gambling for short-term profits.
Today, I published my second blog article on the wikinomics blog. It is about the e-government browser of Microsoft in collaboration with the federal government of Austria. Click here to read it.
